Meet Joey

The Heart Behind Wippet

Wippet was founded in 2024 by Joey as a response to the lack of colourful, fun, and high-performance running apparel on the market. As a high school teacher and former youth and family case worker, Joey wanted to create a brand that not only met the needs of runners but also gave back to, and was involved with local community and charities.

Joey was diagnosed with a rare chronic leukemia in 2016 at just 22 years old and was told he may not be able to run again. As a life long runner, this was devastating. Despite this, after three years of adjusting to various treatments and medications, Joey was able to run once more—a year later completing a marathon. Joey wanted to share his love of running through running apparel that reflected the joy and happiness that running brings to so many people. Wippet apparel was born to represent and cater to the everyday runner with high quality and eye catching gear.

Where Performance

Meets Comfort

It was during training for the marathon return post treatment that it became more apparent that there was a lack of visually diverse running apparel that made it easy to spot friends and family in large races such as park runs, fun runs, and marathon events. Inspired by this insight, Joey conducted feasibility studies, gathered feedback from early target customers, and began sketching designs for a brand that would fill this gap.

Thus, Wippet was born. For Joey, running is a celebration, a source of joy, and an opportunity to connect with others. With Wippet, Joey wanted to create running gear that reflects this spirit—gear that’s as vibrant and fun as the running community itself. This message is reflected in all aspects of Wippet and the brand such as our logo and slogan- Happy running!
